Good Morning Ice Ice Babies.
During our recent trip to the Keys I referred several times to the “Iguana O’ Death” The Upper Keys tourist Bureau sent me a letter (not really) asking me to retract...so here goes.
There actually is no such thing as an "Iguana O’ Death” unless you mean the death of flowers and overripe fruit. Iguanas are vegetarians . They look like they could mess you up if they wanted to, but they don’t. There primary defense tactic is to run away., either into the bush or into a body of water. I hear they taste a lot like chicken.
So Virginia there is no such thing as an "Iguana O' Death.” You can sleep with both eyes closed and your dad can remove the ¾ in plywood from the windows of your bedroom. I hope that clarifies any confusion.
THE REAL BLOG
Dancin' in the Dark.
I’ve decided to apply and participate in this years ONE SPARK 2014. One Spark is a crowd funding opportunity - presented in a fair like atmosphere where people... let me let them tell you.
from their website.... where people with ideas in art, innovation, music, science and technology turn them into Projects to showcase at One Spark, the World’s Crowdfunding Festival. One Spark is built on the premise that great creations can come from garages, small studios and dorm rooms and that the only thing holds them back is access to capital and resources. A Project is a specific plan, design or undertaking with a clear end. A Project can be at any stage of development but will eventually be completed, and something will be produced as a result. Examples would include making an album, producing a film, building a new app or launching an innovative social good initiative. Bringing your Project to One Spark not only helps fund it, it’s also a great way to validate your concept, receive critical feedback and make connections with people who can help you achieve your goals. - See more at: http://www.beonespark.com/
My project is ( and I am doing this already on a small scale) to develop a multi-media presentation designed for people , not only with Parkinson’s Disease, but for anyone who is, or might be, on the verge of loosing hope, of giving up, for any reason. When you lose all hope - can death be far behind? Sadly, no.
My basic premise is that if you find a reason to get up in the morning. A reason to get up with a smile and a positive attitude, you can regain that hope - that happiness that ensures your positive attitude. You are on your way to living like a human again - instead of a potted plant that’s been taken out of the sun. Most of the foundation of healing is a positive attitude and sensible habits - I share what I have learned and how I trick myself into beingg happy. There is no cure for Parkinson’s but these things make dealing with it and a myriad of other conditions a little bit easier.
Like I said, I am already working with this on small scale. I’ve produced a live show, ( I call them shows instead of presentations because they are light - fun - entertaining glimpses into my world called GroovyLand.) a one to two hour show featuring my music - my artwork - poems and stories from my life. How I deal with this gift that keeps on taking. They are based on my daily blog “Letters from GroovyLand - My life with Parknson’s the best life I’ve ever had.” And the Blog is based on them. Ideally I wouldn’t have to do this show by myself and physically I can’t - even in it’s barest version I would need one other person to drive and help set up - a person to pick me up if I fall. An “on the road” care partner, if you will. Although myy ideal is a small 5-6 person company musicians and actors that would help on the daytime as well as the night time shows.
My reason to get up each morning is to create - to make something out of nothing - and that’s what I show people. I show them what I did to give myself a reason and try to help them develop enough tools so that they can so the same. There is plenty of movement - crowd participation - humor and self reflection My goal is for you to go home and find your reason to get up in the morning. It can be something a simple as raising Goldfish - as long as it makes you feel good about yourself and gives you a sense of accomplishment. My goal is to help find what you need to know to not give up. It’s my goal to help you discover how to be happy.
The Big One...
My goal is to assemble a touring company - Five to Six individuals, that would assist me in the logistics of a summer long (two weeks a month) tour. During the day I would talk about what I am doing and at night, in family friendly venue, when possible, I show that I take my own advice and practice what I preach. Daytime explanation - Nightime entertainment. Here is a work up of a possible tour schedule - each color represents a 5-7 day venture Sticking to Major cities that have a Active Parkinson’s support group community. More about the nuts and bolts of the tour tomorrow.
Most of the foundation of healing is a positive attitude and sensible habits - there is no cure for Parkinson’s but these things make dealing with it and a myriad of other conditions a little bit easier and realistic. That seems to be working for me, of course we all have bad moments it’s how we get throughout them that counts
The deadline for submitting my application is Feb. 21st 2014/ The entry fee is $65 - $65 I don’t have right now. I had a series of financial setbacks and since our disposable income is limited to my SS disability check - it’s hard to catch back up. Plus my wife needs eye surgery that her insurance won’t completely cover and I fell bad spending money until she has that procedure done. FYI, our recent trip to Islamorada was a gift from a dear friend who thought we needed some R&R. We wouldn’t have gone otherwise.
This is the Hard Part
I’ve never done this before, but I am asking for help. If anyone that reads this blog - enjoys it - and most importantly feels that its' message of hope - encouragement and positive vibration is something that should be spread out to a broader audience, and you are able to do so without endangering your own financial security. I would be in your debt it you could help me out with a small donation - If sixty five people could just give me a dollar I would have my entry fee. And I could take it from there. If it was $5 then I would be able to prepare an even more impressive presentation at the One Spark Fest, increasing my chances of receiving adequate funding. If you donate $15 or more you would receive a copy of my debut CD and a mention on my webpage listing you as a donor -| $25 - sponsor | $50 - patron } $100 Angel | or you can remain anonymous. I’ll try to figure out a way for individuals to use their credit cards on this webpage - until then you can send cash or a check in the mail for whatever amount you feel is right - made out to Andrew King - 2537 Forbes St. Jacksonville, Florida 32204. Please include you mailing address if your donation is $15 or more, so I can mail you your CD. Any funds I have left over will be donated to Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) for Parkinson's Research. I promise also to make my books public record, so you will be able to see how your hard earned money has been utilized.
Whew! that was hard - Thank you, each and everyone of you for helping me know this is something I could actually feel right in asking for. If you have ANY questions please feel free to email or call me at 904-210-4399 anytime, day of night. Just mention the words “”I want to help out, Andy” that way I’ll know, right off, what the call is about.
Tomprrow I’ll go through what a typical daytime and night time show will consist of and what other morsels we will be offering while out on the road.
just say yes!
meet Andy Ward King, a professional musician and artist until a diagnosis of parkinons dsease at age 49 forced him into an early retirement., he now uses his music, his art along with the whimsical world he has created in this blog as therapy to ( as he puts it ) outsmart his brain and make the daily battles with parkinson’s a little bit easier, to give him that all important reason to get up on the morning, to make his life worth living. Andy has learned how to say NO to gving up \ NO to depression and apathy \ NO to following willingly the road of decline that stretches before him. he learned that to say no to all of these things all one has to do is say yes. Andy has learned to just say YES to life/\\
